Xnormal is an application with interesting texturing features:
Generates normal, ambient occlusion and displacement maps.
If you have a high poly model, it can also take its texture and project it into the lowpoly version of that mesh, even if it has different topology (different polygons).
Includes a 3D viewer that has shaders and realtime shadows and glow effects.
Comes with some useful tools like height map - normal map - cavity map - occlusion - tangent/object space and spherical harmonics tools.
Xnormal is free and just asks for bug reports, feedback, mention it in the things you do with it, or just send them examples of art made with it.
